Located on the southern tip of Japan's Kyushu island, Mizukami Village is known for its high-altitude strawberry farms. The village is situated at the headwaters of the Kuma River, the largest river in Kumamoto Prefecture. It is in this picturesque setting that the inspiration for Yukidoke Mitsu was born.
The design features a textured pasteboard box, symbolizing the falling snow, with a vibrant red foil-stamped strawberry design. The contrast between the pure white box and the luscious red strawberries creates a visually striking and luxurious package.
The package dimensions are W242mm x D160mm x H57mm, providing ample space to showcase the exquisite strawberries. The lid on top adds a touch of elegance and allows for easy access to the contents.
Shingo Furusho, the designer behind Yukidoke Mitsu, explains, "We wanted to create a sense of luxury and uniqueness for this package. The red foil stamping represents the sweetness and richness of the strawberries, while the white box signifies the purity of the snow-melting season."
Not only does the package design capture the essence of sweet strawberries, but it also serves a practical purpose. The solid box ensures the strawberries are well-protected during transportation, making it an ideal gift for someone special.
Yukidoke Mitsu was created in 2019 at the request of Mizukami Village, Kumamoto Prefecture. The design team faced the challenge of expressing the concept of "sweet strawberries" visually. Through careful naming and logo design, they were able to overcome this obstacle and create a package that truly embodies the brand.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2022. The award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, which combines art, science, and technology to enhance the quality of life.
With Yukidoke Mitsu, Shingo Furusho has successfully captured the magic of sweet strawberries in a visually stunning and luxurious package. It is a testament to the beauty and innovation that can be achieved in the world of design.
